Process serving means delivering a legal document to the person named in it, then proving that it happened. Nova Scotia’s Civil Procedure Rules require an originating document to be served on that person directly. That is the document that starts a court case.
First Defence serves documents across the province. We return a signed affidavit of service as soon as the job is done.
By email or in person, with the details of who needs served and where.
A process server locates the person and serves the documents directly, following the Civil Procedure Rules.
Date, time, location and outcome, whether service succeeded or not.
Signed and ready to file with the court, or an affidavit of attempted service if the person could not be located.
We serve documents across the province, from Halifax and Dartmouth out to Cape Breton and the Valley.
If the person you need served is avoiding it, tell us. A difficult serve is common, not unusual, and we plan around it.
Send the documents and the details of who needs served. Urgent serves do not have to wait for business hours.

Every process server we use understands the Civil Procedure Rules. They know what a court will and will not accept as proper service.
Personal service does not require special authority for most documents, but getting it wrong can mean starting over. Dispatch runs 24/7, so an urgent serve does not have to wait for business hours.
A sworn, signed document confirming when, where and how a document was served. Courts rely on it to confirm that the other party was properly notified.
